Job 38:40

When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

The verse pictures young lions crouching hidden in their dens and remaining in cover to lie in wait for prey. The question surrounding this picture teaches that God satisfies the hunger of the young lions and provides for their needs. In its setting within God's questioning in Job 38-40, the verse shows that man was made last and took no part in creating the world or anything that has the breath of life. The verse therefore calls for rejecting human fallacies for the Word of God: man was created after the image of God and Christ, God is a personal Creator distinct from nature, and Christ is the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person by whom the worlds were made and all things are upheld. As one of the divine questions about nature, the verse exposes the limits of human wisdom, with God directing finite minds to the mysteries around them rather than to answers they can fully master.
