Job 4:3

Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

Job 4:3 teaches that members of the church are to instruct many and give strength to weak hands. This is done by speaking kind words and offering sympathy at the right time. It includes turning aside evil surmising brought in by meddlers and vindicating a brother's cause when it is misrepresented. It further requires comforting the feeble-minded, supporting the weak, and bidding the fearful-hearted to be strong and not fear.

This strengthening work must be performed while fellow believers are still alive. When death claims one of their number, that person's account in the books of heaven is fixed for the Judgment. Those who have fulfilled this duty are then left with pleasant memories. Those who have spoken harsh words and done unkind acts are instead left with shame over what can no longer be recalled or repaired.
