Job 40:12

Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

The command to look on the proud and bring him low belongs to God's own speech and questions in Job 38-40. That speech displays God's mighty power as a personal Creator who is distinct from nature. It shows that man was made last and took no part in creating the world or in creating anything that has the breath of life. It stands against human fallacies to prove that man was created after the image of God and of Christ. The questions are not asked so that finite people can answer them, but to expose the limits of human wisdom, to turn attention to God's deep mysteries, and to teach that His wisdom and power exceed human understanding.
