Leviathan Rises Breathing Fire From the Seaby emmanuel_higgins

Job 41:21

His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

This description of breath kindling coals with flame from the mouth belongs among the divine questions concerning the mysteries of Jehovah displayed in nature, mysteries that persons of the greatest intellect cannot understand and that the most profound scholars cannot answer. It was set forth as part of that series in which God interrogates human understanding by pointing to wonders in creation that lie beyond finite grasp. The question was not put in order to receive an answer but to direct attention to the deep mysteries of God. Its purpose is to teach that human wisdom is limited, for many things found in the surroundings of daily life remain beyond the comprehension of finite beings.

God is to be acknowledged as much from what He does not reveal of Himself as from what is open to limited comprehension. Both in divine revelation and in nature He has given mysteries to command faith in His infinite power. By this means people are kept ever searching, ever inquiring, and ever learning, while an infinity still lies beyond.
