Job 42:9
So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job. So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.
The Lord's rebuke fell upon Job's friends because they misread his afflictions as evidence that he must be a great sinner. They treated prolonged suffering itself as proof of hidden guilt, judging his standing before God by the severity of his losses and pain. That judgment was wrong, for Job was not suffering as a condemned transgressor but enduring as the Lord's faithful servant. The Lord therefore vindicated Job and accepted him, setting His approval upon His servant while rejecting the friends' condemnation.
