Job 5:26

Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

The hope held out is of coming to the grave in a full age, as ripe grain is gathered in its proper season. Death at the completion of life's appointed course is pictured as a harvest brought to maturity. The image becomes a prayer to die fully ripe, with a life marked by trust in God and gratitude for His care. It is likewise a prayer to die fully ripe in character, with steady trust in God, gratitude, and no complaint.
