I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
The foolish may take root and for a time appear prosperous and firmly established, yet the habitation so built suddenly comes under divine curse and judgment. Apparent prosperity and deep roots give no security to the ungodly, for God can suddenly bring judgment upon the dwelling. What looks like settled success is temporary, and the curse falls swiftly when the true character of the course is revealed.
This exposes secret societies whose apparent advantages and growing wealth conceal evil, for the ungodly gain they accumulate becomes a curse when its consequences and effects are fully seen. It likewise warns those who build wealth by enriching themselves through exploiting the poor that their prosperity is temporary, that their fortunes cannot protect them from God's curse and judgment, and that what they have gained may be lost. Taking root is cherishing the selfish desire to distinguish oneself and unholy ambition, and that spirit itself draws the sudden curse upon the dwelling.
In education this applies to students who, to distinguish themselves or from ambition, pursue and even prolong a course of study that weakens faith in the truth and in the Lord's power and diminishes respect for a holy life, thereby building a habitation the Lord will suddenly curse. Advancing even one step in such a course on human advice and instructors, without first seeking God individually with an open heart to obtain His counsel through the Holy Spirit, stands condemned, and every human suggestion must be taken to God. Escape requires setting aside and blotting out every selfish desire and unholy ambition, with motives weighed by God who sees and tries the heart, fixing hope and trust on Him alone and moving only with Him as Guide and party to every plan and acting under His guidance rather than trusting men.
