Job 6:1 marks the beginning of Job's reply to Eliphaz and to his friends. That reply belongs to the dialogue and debate with his three friends about his afflictions and suffering, including the cause and purpose of human suffering. That debate spans chapters 4-31 and consists of three rounds of speeches.

In chapters 4-7 Job's answer justifies his complaints. His friends' general claims about suffering were often true but were wrongly applied to Job. Affliction does not prove that a person is under God's displeasure.
