Job 6:13

Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?

Job 6:13 belongs to Job's reply to Eliphaz, in which he justifies his complaints. It expresses his sense that he has no help or wisdom left within himself. He feels himself without inner resource to help him and without wisdom to meet his suffering.

The book to which it belongs presents the problems of providence, sin, and suffering. Its dialogues address the cause and purpose of human suffering. Job's affliction is God's discipline, while his friends wrongly insist that his suffering is caused by his sin. Their claims about good and evil were generally true but were misapplied to his case. Affliction does not prove that a sufferer is under God's displeasure or should be discouraged.
