Job 6:24

Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

The words come in Job's reply to Eliphaz, where he defends and vindicates his complaining. In them he asks to be taught and corrected, that the place where he has gone wrong may be made plain to him. He makes this request while holding fast to his own integrity, unable to grasp the meaning of God's dealings with him, yet without bringing any foolish accusation against God.

Affliction is therefore to be met with a quiet, teachable listening for what God would show. Where sin is brought to light it is to be confessed, put away, and forsaken with a settled resolve not to repeat it.
