Job 6:7

The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.

Job 6:7 belongs to Job's argument with his friends about the cause and purpose of suffering. Their general claims about affliction were misapplied to Job. His suffering did not prove that God was displeased with him. The things his soul had refused to touch had become as his sorrowful food. His grief made even what he could not bear to eat seem like his painful nourishment. That food had become as distressing to him as his suffering.

The word soul here means selfhood or physical personality. It is presented as refusing to touch things and as having them for sorrowful meat. In this it is shown as desiring food, eating, and being satisfied with food.
