Job 7:12

Am I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?

Job 7:12 belongs to Job's anguished complaint to God poured out in the midst of his affliction. In it he asks whether he is the sea or a sea monster that has to be kept under guard. The question voices his sense of being relentlessly watched and held under restraint by God. Around it, in Job 7:11-16, his grief drives him to speak openly of being weary of life and of wishing for death. His later experience moves beyond that despair into trust in God, hope for the future, and restoration.
