Job 7:16

I loathe it; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

In deep affliction Job came to loathe life itself, declaring he had no desire to live on forever and pleading to be left alone because his days felt empty and fleeting. His cry was born out of anguish, expressing the depth of his despair and a wish for death rather than any longing for endless existence in that condition. Yet his suffering did not terminate in death, for hope of a future beyond his misery was set before him. In that hope he ultimately came to rest in trust in God's mercy and saving power.
