Joel 2:26
And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
The promise comes as God's answer after warnings of judgments and calamities upon those who continue to dishonor Him, and after a call to escape wrath through solemn assembly, fasting, and priestly prayer that God would spare His heritage from reproach and from rule by the heathen. It means that when the Lord becomes jealous for His land and pities His people, He sends grain, wine, and oil, gives the former and latter rain, fills the floors with wheat, and causes the vats to overflow. It promises restoration of the years destroyed by the palmerworm, locust, cankerworm, and caterpillar, given as the Lord's response to His people's distress. As a result His people eat in plenty, are satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord their God for dealing wondrously and marvelously toward them.
His people will never be ashamed nor be made a reproach among the heathen. That assurance of never being put to shame was fulfilled in the disciples' joy and triumph after Jesus' resurrection, when after anguish and apparent defeat God's word was accomplished and they received hope and confidence for their work even through sacrifice and martyrdom. The verse is a promise to be kept before the people and to be trusted by those who love God rather than leaning on human help.
