Joel 3:9

Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up:

In its setting of Joel 3:9-16, the verse points to the time when God's voice shakes the heavens and the earth and His wrath comes upon persecutors. The persecutors on whom that wrath falls are those who enforce the sign or mark of the beast. Those who turned away from and rejected what God spoke will then confess and recognize their error and the importance of the Sabbath. That acknowledgment comes too late as a confession of fatal error, realizing that the Sabbath is the seal of the living God and recalling what the Lord spoke when His voice shook the earth.

The verse calls God's people to awaken and prepare for a decisive conflict, stirring the mighty men to action. Satan is working to silence them and to divide them, while a national effort threatens the religious liberty of seventh-day Sabbath keepers, requiring them to set aside personal disagreements and energetically defend God's law. It is a call to sound an alarm and wake the mighty men by removing from the church what offends God and seeking the conversion of those sowing jealousy and envy. Christianity transforms character and brings the will into harmony with God's will, and by this God's people are distinguished from worldlings.
The call to wake the mighty men means the messages proclaimed during the preceding fifty years are to be repeated and recognized in their full force in the last days. The call is to meet the day of the Lord prepared to stand, with the spirit that accompanied those messages renewed in the heart.
