Those sayings presented Him as the true Shepherd who knows and cares for those who believe in Him and gives His life for them. As that Shepherd He is the keeper of the Lord's flock. That presentation set Him in contrast with Israel's leaders, and the Pharisees showed themselves to be unfit shepherds by driving away the man who testified to Jesus.
