John 8:21
Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
The warning is spoken to the Pharisees who rejected Jesus and hardened their hearts against Him. To them He declares that He will depart and go away from them. Those who thus reject Him will seek Him, but only too late, after He has gone.
Those who reject Him will die in their sins and will be unable to come where He is going, unable to share His destination and left outside His place to face eternal ruin. This fate comes from failing to believe that He is the One He claims to be. Their worldly outlook and false expectations of the Messiah keep them from recognizing Him. Their refusal to accept the evidence of His divine mission and character leaves them unable to understand or receive Him and facing death in sin. Those who persist in sin against light and knowledge in obstinate refusal to surrender to God may likewise die in their sins.
