John 8:50

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

Jesus spoke in the morning in the court of the temple as part of the teaching beginning with being the light of the world, specially connected with the services of the Feast of Tabernacles. At that feast great lamps had been kindled at evening in commemoration of the pillar of light and in hope of the Messiah's coming. That teaching about being the light of life is recorded in John 8:12-59 and is continued in John 9.

The meaning is that He does not seek honor or glory for Himself, but the glory of the Father who sent Him, and the Father is the One who seeks and judges. While He honored the Father, His accusers dishonored Him, and He left judgment of that dishonor to the Father. This selflessness expresses the law of life: Christ receives all from God and gives it to others, while praise and service return to God through Christ. His example calls God's people to reject self-exaltation and to honor God through self-denial and self-sacrifice.
