John 9:18
But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
This verse belongs to the account of Jesus healing a man born blind. It records that the Jewish leaders refused to believe concerning him that he had been blind and had received his sight until they called his parents to verify it. Their refusal came from prejudice and spiritual blindness, even though the miracle was evidence of Christ's divine mission.
In this setting the Pharisees treated the restored man with contempt and hatred, while Christ compassionately sought to save him. The healed man did not know who had healed him until Jesus revealed Himself as the Son of God, and then he worshiped Him. This shows that Jesus' compassion reaches even one who does not yet know Him as believer or disciple.
