John 9:8

The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

The verse belongs to the account of Jesus restoring sight to a man who had been blind and was known to sit and beg. The man had been blind from birth. This healing is connected with Jesus' declaration that He is the light of the world. The account shows Jesus' sympathy and compassion extending even to people who did not yet know Him. The healing shows the compassionate Shepherd seeking and helping a poor sufferer whom the self-righteous Pharisees despised and treated with hatred.

The neighbors and others who had previously seen him as blind questioned whether the sighted person was the same man who had sat and begged. His face was changed and brightened by the healing, so he looked like someone else, which caused their doubt. The healed man himself confirmed that he was the same person. After the healing the man did not know who had healed him until Jesus revealed Himself to him as the Son of God.
