A Great Fish Swims Toward the Sinking Jonahby emmanuel_higgins

Jonah 2:3

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

The words are Jonah's own acknowledgment of his peril in the sea, that the Lord had cast him into the deep, into the midst of the seas, where the floods encircled him and all God's billows and waves passed over him. They belong to the account of his severe affliction, by which God taught him obedience and made him ready to fulfill God's purpose for Nineveh. In those trials God did not leave him abandoned to fearful despair.

Those same trials revived his confidence in God's power to save and renewed his determination to obey even at the cost of personal sacrifice.
