Joshua 1:17
According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses. According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.
The people of Israel, leaders and people together, pledged to obey Joshua in all things just as they had hearkened unto Moses, and to go wherever he should send them. They made that obedience and support conditional on the Lord God being with Joshua as He had been with Moses, tying his leadership and their loyalty to God's presence with him.
They expressed this as the hope that the Lord would be with Joshua as He had been with Moses. They declared that anyone who should rebel against Joshua's command or refuse to obey his words would be put to death. They urged Joshua to be strong and courageous.
