Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage. Israel pledged to obey Joshua's commands in all things just as they had obeyed Moses. That pledge to obey him as they had obeyed Moses was made on the condition that the Lord would be with Joshua as He had been with Moses. It included going wherever Joshua sent them. They declared that whoever rebelled against his commandment and would not hearken to his words in all that he commanded would be put to death. At the same time they urged Joshua as their leader to be strong and of good courage.
