Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
After Moses' death the promise and instruction passed to Joshua as he took up the honored and responsible work of leading Israel. Every place the sole of the foot would tread was given to Israel, in fulfillment of what had been said to Moses and sworn to their ancestors. The promised territory stretched from Lebanon and the Great Sea to the Euphrates and was to be divided among the people as an inheritance. Possession of Canaan was conditional on Joshua faithfully observing the commandments. The assurance of divine presence with Joshua as with Moses removed Joshua's fear about leading the people.
The verse belongs to God's own appointment of Joshua to work in connection with Moses for His people, a role whose instruction must come from God Himself to the one He appoints, so that claiming Joshua's place alongside one acting as Moses without that divine appointment is false and impossible. It does not appoint one modern leader to Moses' place and another to Joshua's place to carry the work forward together and proclaim the truth with power, and in that sense does not belong to Seventh-day Adventists. Pulling it together with other strong passages to claim such positions, to denounce persons and things, and to declare that those who reject the claim have rejected God and fixed their eternal destiny twists and misapplies God's Word according to human ideas.
