Joshua 10:21

And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

The return to Makkedah in quiet safety came at the close of the battle fought for the sake of the Gibeonites. Those people had obtained a covenant of peace from Israel by craft and false pretense, presenting themselves as travelers from a distant country. When the fraud was exposed, the oath sworn by the princes of the congregation still bound Israel to spare their lives. The undisturbed rest in camp therefore marked the outcome of a victory in which Israel both kept its sworn word and defended those it had pledged to protect.
