Joshua Leads His Army Through the HillsBible World
10:9Joshua 10:9
Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.
The night march from Gilgal that brought sudden relief belongs to the larger history of Israel's entanglement with the Gibeonites. That entanglement rested on a covenant gained by fraud rather than by open negotiation. The deceptive means by which the treaty was obtained shape the surrounding narrative and explain why Israel was bound to defend those who had misled them.
