Joshua 11:11

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them: there was not any left to breathe: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

Hazor was the stronghold of the Canaanite alliance, and its capture and burning came after Israel defeated the allied forces. The verse records that decisive stroke against the center of northern resistance. With Hazor destroyed, the northern campaign was brought to its close. Joshua stood as master of Canaan, and the land had rest from war.
