Joshua 11:12

And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

Joshua 11:12 belongs to the account of Israel's conquest of Canaan, coming after the victory at Beth-horon when Joshua took the cities and kings of the southern country. That southern victory came because the Lord fought for Israel.

The verse also records the northern campaign that followed the victory over the allied kings gathered near the waters of Merom, when Joshua took the cities and kings of the northern coalition and struck them down with the edge of the sword. In doing so he carried out the command given through Moses the servant of the Lord. Hazor, the stronghold of that northern alliance, was burned. The northern campaign closed after several years, leaving the land at rest from war.
