Joshua 11:14
And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe. And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any to breathe.
Joshua 11:14 stands in the record of Israel's conquest of Canaan, and more particularly in the victory over the northern Canaanite alliance. In that record Joshua took all those kings and their land at one time because the Lord fought for Israel. The Lord gave Israel the victory even though the enemy came with vast numbers of people and with many horses and chariots.
Israel was forbidden to keep the captured chariots and horses to strengthen its own warfare, so the chariots were burned and the horses were lamed to make them unfit for use in battle. The lesson of the verse is to put trust in God rather than in military strength.
