This deliverance comes in sequence after the victory at Beth-horon and the conquest of the south, continuing the account of Israel's conquest of Canaan. Here the Lord gave Israel victory over the northern Canaanite alliance near Lake Merom. Israel routed the enemy and pursued them until none remained. The triumph belonged to God rather than to Israel's own military strength.
