Joshua 12:5

And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

Joshua 12:5 belongs to the account of the division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes. Within that account it is part of a list of kings and places defeated in battle before Israel's land was divided. The surrounding section shows Israel's lack of faith and slowness in taking possession. The section closes with the assurance that God did all He had promised and none of His good word failed.
