Joshua 12:6

Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

Moses the servant of the Lord together with the children of Israel smote the opposing kings. Moses the servant of the Lord gave the conquered territory east of the Jordan for a possession to the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh. The verse belongs to the division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes. The land east of the Jordan was the chosen inheritance of the two and one-half tribes.

The two and one-half tribes returned to that eastern inheritance after all Israel had received their inheritance. There they built an altar of witness that the nine and one-half tribes at first mistook for rival worship. The taking and dividing of the land shows Israel's lack of faith and slowness. Even so, God wrought all that He had promised, and there failed not aught of any good thing He had spoken.
