Joshua 13:14 stands within the record of how the land was distributed among the tribes of Israel. In that division Levi alone was given no territorial portion in Canaan. The tribe was left without land because the Lord had set it apart for the priesthood. In place of land, the offerings to the Lord consumed by fire were appointed as their inheritance, just as God had told them. They were therefore to live from the tithes and offerings brought by the other tribes.
