Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayer, was slain by the children of Israel with the sword among those slain by them. He died in the defeat of the Midianites, whom he had joined after yielding to covetousness and persistent rebellion. Although he had wished to die as the righteous do, his cherished sin corrupted his character and led him to ruin. In both character and fate he resembled Judas.
