Aged Joshua Surveys the Land Yet to Possessby emmanuel_higgins

Joshua 13:3

From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites:

The verse describes a coastal territory running from Sihor before Egypt northward to the borders of Ekron. That district was reckoned to the Canaanite but was at that time still held by the Philistines. Its occupants were the five Philistine groups centered at Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron, along with the Avites. This region is marked as part of Canaan that remained unconquered when the land was to be apportioned among the tribes of Israel.
