Joshua 13:6
All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.
The territory described was still in Canaanite hands yet was to be divided by lot among Israel as their inheritance, including the hill country, the Sidonian lands, and the Lebanon region extending to Misrephoth-maim, although conquest had not yet taken place. God himself pledged to drive those inhabitants out from before the children of Israel, with the fulfillment of that expulsion resting on Israel's continued faithfulness. At the same time each tribe bore its own responsibility to subdue and conquer the portion allotted to it rather than expecting the work to be done without its effort.
