Caleb Asks Joshua for the Hill Countryby emmanuel_higgins

Joshua 14:13

And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

Hebron, given to Caleb as his inheritance and possession, was a fertile and fruitful city in Judah. It was formerly called Kirjath-arba and Mamre, and it contained the cave of Machpelah where the patriarchs were buried. Joshua blessed Caleb and gave him Hebron as his inheritance as the reward for wholly following the Lord in faithfulness and trust in God.

Although Caleb shared Israel's forty years of wandering, he remained faithful to God and entered the promised land. He received the stronghold he had chosen despite its Anakim inhabitants, the giants he had trusted God to help him overcome. In God's strength he drove out the Canaanites and possessed the vineyards and olive groves there.
