Joshua 14:14
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.
Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh and remained so unto this day because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel. His faith in God's promise sustained him through the years in the wilderness. That wholehearted following meant trusting God's promise enough to choose the formidable Anakim stronghold and rely on God to help him conquer it.
In God's strength he drove out the Canaanites and took the stronghold with its vineyards and olive groves. His inheritance rewarded that faithfulness and gave Israel an example that encouraged the tribes to subdue the land. Hebron, identified here as Caleb's possession, was the chief city of Judah to which David later came.
