Joshua 14:3

For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

Joshua 14:3 belongs to and records the account of Joshua dividing the land inheritance among Israel and its tribes. That section describing the distribution of the land is based on records that describe the property accurately. Moses had already assigned the inheritance on the east side of the Jordan to two tribes and a half tribe.

The Levites were given no tribal inheritance among the other tribes. The allotment involves the twelve tribes descended from Jacob's twelve sons. Their organization as tribes represented God's kingdom in miniature.
