Caleb Asks Joshua for the Hill Countryby emmanuel_higgins

Joshua 14:9

And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children’s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

Moses swore on that day that the very ground on which Caleb's feet had trodden while exploring Canaan would be his inheritance and his children's forever, because he had wholly followed the Lord his God. That wholly following the Lord meant trusting God's promise with faith and courage to seek and claim land that others feared to conquer, in contrast to the cowards and rebels who drew back. The oath was fulfilled after forty years in the wilderness when Caleb received Hebron as his portion, including its vineyards and olive groves and its stronghold and land of the giants where his feet had walked. In God's strength he drove out the Canaanites there and took possession of what his faith and courage had won. Such wholehearted devotion is held out as a model for others to imitate.
