Joshua 15:2

And their south border was from the shore of the salt sea, from the bay that looketh southward:

Joshua 15:2 comes after the account of Achan's sin and its fearful consequences, in the part concerned with conquering the Canaanites and dividing the land. More specifically, it belongs to the Joshua 13 to 22 account of the distribution, division, and settling of the land of Canaan, the Promised Land, among the tribes. That distribution is given as a geographical record based on written documents in which property boundaries were accurately described. That section also shows Israel's lack of faith and slowness, yet it closes with the assurance that God did all that He had promised and none of His good word failed. The verse identifies the Salt Sea as the landmark fixing the southern boundary. The Salt Sea is the body of water now called the Dead Sea, lying on the southeast border of the Holy Land.
