Joshua 15:4

From thence it passed toward Azmon, and went out unto the river of Egypt; and the goings out of that coast were at the sea: this shall be your south coast.

The line traced here forms the southern boundary of Judah, passing toward Azmon, continuing to the river of Egypt, and reaching its termination at the sea. It stands within the account in Joshua 13-22 of the distribution of the land among Israel, a record founded on written documents in which the property was accurately described. More particularly it belongs to the section in Joshua 11-21 describing the division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes, a section that exposes Israel's lack of faith and slowness while closing with the assurance that God fulfilled all He had promised. The book itself is the first of the twelve historical books recording the history of the chosen people from their first occupation of the land of Canaan as a nation to the return from the captivity, and it bears the name of its leading character Joshua, by whom part of it was written.
