Joshua 15:43

And Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib,

The three names are towns allotted to Judah, and the chapter is the source for a clue about one of eleven mountain cities in Judah's inheritance. The verse stands in the part of the book dealing with the conquering of the Canaanites and the division of the land. It belongs to chapters 11-21, which record the division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes, showing Israel's lack of faith and slowness yet ending with the assurance that God wrought all He had promised and none of His good words failed.

It stands in chapters 13 to 22 containing the account of the distribution of the land, which is based on written documents in which the property was accurately described. It is part of the first of the twelve historical books, named for Joshua by whom part of it was written, which records the history of the chosen people from their first occupation of the land of Canaan as a nation to the return from the captivity.
