Joshua 15:47
Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof: Ashdod with her towns and her villages, Gaza with her towns and her villages, unto the river of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof:
At its southern reach the allotted border of Judah embraced Ashdod with its towns and villages and Gaza with its towns and villages, running to the river of Egypt and to the Great Sea with its coastline. This delineation stands within the assignment of lands in Joshua. It forms part of the geographical description of the distribution of the land among the tribes. More particularly it belongs to the listing of the territory that fell by lot to the tribe of Judah, a larger listing that counts eleven mountain cities. That listing itself belongs to the account of the conquering of the Canaanites and the division of the land following Achan's sin and its fearful consequences, which constitutes the main part of the book of Joshua.
