The east and north lines described here belong to the account of the conquering of the Canaanites and the division of the land among Israel, coming after the account of Achan's sin and its fearful consequences. They stand within the record in Joshua 11 to 21 of the division and settling of the Promised Land among the tribes. That distribution was drawn from written documents in which the property and its boundaries were accurately described.
