Joshua 15:9

And the border was drawn from the top of the hill unto the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border was drawn to Baalah, which is Kirjath-jearim:

Joshua 15:9 belongs to the account of Joshua dividing, allotting, and settling the Promised Land of Canaan among the tribes of Israel. Within that account it lies in Joshua 13-22, the section describing the distribution of the land as the nation first occupied it, giving an accurate description of property boundaries based on written documents. The book containing it is the first of the twelve historical books recording the history of the chosen people from their first occupation of Canaan to the return from the captivity, named for Joshua as its leading character with part written by him.

The verse helps identify one of the eleven mountain cities allotted to the tribe of Judah. In narrative order it follows the crossing of the Jordan, the conquering of the Canaanites, and Achan's sin with its fearful consequences, setting the people on their way to conquer their enemies and enter the promised rest. The surrounding account teaches that victory depended on trust in God, while failure to trust brought defeat and adversity.
