Joshua 16:10

And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer, but allowed them to continue living among the Ephraimites and to serve under tribute. This belongs to the account of conquering the Canaanites and of dividing and settling the land among the tribes. Within that account it comes after Achan's sin and before the solemn charge to serve God alone, leading toward Israel's failure to carry out God's instructions. It illustrates lack of faith and slowness in fully possessing the Promised Land.
