Joshua 16:2

And goeth out from Beth-el to Luz, and passeth along unto the borders of Archi to Ataroth,

Joshua 16:2 belongs to the account of the dividing, distributing, and settling of the Promised Land among Israel and its tribes. Joshua is the leader who brought Israel across the Jordan and divided the land. The verse traces part of the boundary of the inheritance and territory allotted to the children of Joseph, running out from Bethel to Luz and passing along unto the border of the Archites to Ataroth.

The section describing the distribution of the land draws on written documents that accurately recorded property boundaries. The surrounding section also shows Israel's lack of faith and slowness in settling the land. It closes with the assurance that God wrought all He had promised and none of His good words failed.
