Joshua 17:7

And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

Joshua 17:7 stands within the geographical account of the distribution of Canaan, setting out the portion assigned to each tribe. That account presents the allotment as carefully defined territory, laid down through written records that accurately marked property boundaries. The verse also belongs to the larger movement of conquering the Canaanites and dividing the land among Israel. In that order it follows Achan's sin and its fearful consequences, and it comes before Joshua's solemn charge to serve God and Him alone.
