Joshua 18:12

And their border on the north side was from Jordan; and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness of Beth-aven.

The verse stands in the account of conquering the Canaanites and dividing the land, which follows the lesson of Achan's sin and its fearful consequences. It is part of the detailed geographical record of how Canaan was divided among the tribes, giving the description of Benjamin's inheritance in Canaan.

It defines the northern boundary of the land allotted to Benjamin. That boundary began at the Jordan, passed to the north side of Jericho, ran westward through the mountains, and its goings out were at the wilderness of Beth-aven. Benjamin's territory lay within the larger area allotted to Judah and adjoined Judah's territory, and Jerusalem was in Benjamin's territory.
